Our hearts
and prayers go out to all
the victims of Hurricane
Katrina. A lot of us would
like to help. Unfortunately,
most of us are unable or
allowed to get out there and
aid the people. So, how can
you help? RN MARKET is
directly helping a family
from New Orleans. Some of
the victims in this family
of 24 are friends of
Veronica's and Ryan's. Their
names are Ronnie and Fly.
Ronnie and Fly are musicians
who are well known on
Bourbon Street. They play
regularly in a band called
Rooster and the Chicken
Hawks. If you have been to
Bourbon Street, you may have
seen them playing at the
Jazz Parlor. They are some
of the best musicians in New
Orleans. We were planning on
scheduling them as
entertainment at our Indulge
conference in February.
These two
musicians are staying in
Dustin, Florida with
another friend of ours,
Rodeana. All their
families are staying
with them as well. There
are over 24 people
staying in one
apartment. They range
from 18 months to 88
years old. They have
lost everything. Ronnie
just recently heard from
his sons and his other
band members who he
hadn't heard from since
the storm. They will
hopefully get help from
FEMA but they need help
until then. Looking at
the situation in New
Orleans, it doesn't look
like they will get help
from FEMA for a while.
Ryan and Veronica
have been donating
and helping them any
way they can. If you
would like to donate
to a good family who
is going through
some very hard
times, they need
some help. You can
donate what ever you
would like. They
need money, clothes,
groceries, etc.
Their address is
below:
RODEANA GARON
38
TERRA COTTA WAY
DESTIN, FL. 32541
If
you can help them,
here is a list of
some things they
need that they
mentioned: Size
36x32 men's pants,
kids size 6 & 12,
women's size 14,
men's large shirts.
If you don't feel
comfortable sending
money, they have a
Winn Dixie and
Wal-Mart near by so
gift certificates
will work. These are
just a few things.
Send what every you
wish. If they can't
use it, they know
other families who
can. We greatly
appreciate all your
donations.
What else can you do
to help?
There
are many places you
can donate to help
all the unfortunate
victims.
Unfortunately, there
are those who will
try to take
advantage of the
situation. You
should be careful
before sending money
to places taking
donations. Some well
know and reputable
places we found to
donate are below.
You can also do your
own online searches
to find places to
donate.

HOW TO SOLVE THE
BIGGEST PROBLEM WE
FACE IN MARKETING
WITH TIPS & TRICKS
TO THE PRE-CALL,
POST-CALL AND... THE
INTERVIEW!!
The goal
in mind is to land the
case. Once you have your
foot in the door, don't
drop the ball. How do
you become successful
and walk out with the
case? Chances are if
they called you in for
an interview and took
time out of their day to
see you, you are going
to get the case. That's
not always true. Many
times, the ball is
dropped and you thought
you had it all along.
Let's go over what you
can do to make sure that
you land the case and
carry the ball to get
the case.
Pre-Call
The first
thing you need to do is
to actually make the
pre-call. Most people
feel they can skip this
step. It is important to
try to get your foot
through the door prior
to them even seeing your
marketing package. If
they have a pending case
that they need help
with, an initial phone
call might get you an
interview or even a
case. Don't skip this
step.
Call when
you feel the attorney
may be available, early
in the morning, right
before or even after 5
pm or in the late
afternoon. Ask for the
attorney. Do you
homework and see how
many work in the office.
Do they have a nurse,
doctor, paralegal, legal
assistant, secretary,
office assistant, or
gatekeeper on staff? Do
you know who handles the
cases in that office? If
not, ask for the
attorney or try to get
past the gatekeeper.
Once you
are speaking with
someone, try to get them
to schedule an
appointment for you to
see the attorney and
introduce yourself to
them and your services.
Let them know that you
are introducing your
services and your
company to them and that
all you need is a few
minutes of their time.
See what type of cases
that they handle and try
to find topics in the
conversation that will
get them to feel that
they may need your
services. Not everyone
will respond to the
phone call but it might
save some steps. If you
are not able to get an
appointment, let them
know that you are
sending the information
out to them.
Find out
who to address the items
out to and send one set
to that person and
another set to the
attorney. Send one with
this mailing and the
other with another
mailing at a different
time so that they will
not both get the
materials at the same
time. Treat all
attorneys in the office
as a different prospect.
If there are three or
four or more attorneys,
send the items to each
one on different
mailings and spread the
mailings out.
If you
don't get an appointment
on the pre-call and you
don't get to talk to the
attorney, don't feel
discouraged. It was only
the first attempt to get
past the gatekeeper and
gives you the
opportunity to know how
easy or hard it is to
get directly to your
target. Sometimes you
will get shot right
down. Some other will
actually be rude to you
when you call. You may
come across one or two
that want to set up an
interview and even one
or two that may give you
a case immediately right
from the phone.
Send your
marketing packets out
and make sure that you
are home for the return
calls. Once you receive
a call to go on the
interview, prepare to
make a good impression.
Interview
For the
interview, you will need
your CV, Fee Schedule,
Sample Work Product,
business cards and extra
marketing packets. Even
though you have mailed
out some marketing
packets to the attorney,
you will need some for
the rest of the staff
that might be in on the
interview. You want to
come prepared. You can
also have your Web site
information and a laptop
so that if you have a
PowerPoint of Flash
Presentation, you can
present it at the
interview.
Make sure
you are dressed the
part. Well groomed works
best. You can bring an
associate if there are
more people that also
work with you. Be
friendly and do your
homework ahead of time.
Do an Internet search on
the attorney and their
firm. You can find out
how to do these searches
from the Second Edition
of The LNC Marketing
Handbook coming out
soon. Find out some
facts about them that
you can discuss with
them and how you can
help them on their
cases.
Ask them
if they have any cases
that they wanted to pass
by you verbally and
discuss the case with
them and how you can
help. Don't give them
all the answers but let
them know if you feel
that the case should be
reviewed by a Legal
Nurse Consultant. They
can start to see where
you would be of some
help to them. Some
attorneys use Legal
Nurses all of the time
and they just want to
see your information and
interview you so that
they can determine if
you have what they are
looking for. If you feel
that the interview did
not go off too well, let
them know that you can
get them other Legal
Nurse Consultants as
well as yourself and
that you can also locate
testifying experts for
them. This is something
that is hard for them to
do many times because
they are too busy.
Having someone that can
do this for them is a
big plus on your side.
Once the
interview is over, you
should be walking out
with a case. If you do
not get a case, ask for
referrals so that you
can try to get business
from others that they
feel may need your
services.
Many
times, the attorney will
interview you knowing
that they do not have a
case at the moment but
they want to have you
lined up so that when a
case comes in that they
do need your help on,
they have your
information to give you
a call. Sometimes they
also want to try to do
the case without your
help and want you on
standby in case they
need you.
Post-Call
The
follow-up call is hard
to manage for most. For
the Legal Nurse
Consultants that did not
want to do the Pre-Call,
the Post-Call is more
than they can handle.
They just feel
discouraged.
You need
to make this call to
increase your chances of
success. Once you make
several of these calls,
you get the hang of what
it's like to receive
both good responses and
bad responses from
gatekeepers and
attorneys. After doing
these calls, you learn
what works best for you.
Again, try to get your
foot through the door
and land an interview.
The interview is what
gets you the cases.
How you
handle yourself on the
phone will also
determine how many
chances you will have at
getting the interview.
Role-playing helps to
make the pre-call
interview and follow-up
call a success.
Practice
and practice how you
will respond on the
phone and what you will
say to certain typical
questions. This will
give you your best
chance at polishing your
response to get you the
interview.
Now, go
get em!!
TECH TALK By Ryan
Sanchez
VIRUSES & VIRUS SCANNERS
The Internet as we know
today is monstrous. Due
to its size and the way
it is laid out, there
really isn't much
control over what people
are allowed to do on it.
Therefore, you have to
be very careful about
what goes through your
computer. There are
countless malicious
programs that can render
your computer unusable.
These programs can
download to your
computer without you
even knowing. The tree
most harmful types of
malicious software are
viruses, worms, and
spyware:
-
Viruses
are
computer
programs usually hidden
within another seemingly
harmless program that
produces copies of
itself and inserts them
into other programs or
files, and that usually
perform a malicious
action such as
destroying data.
-
Worms are very similar
to viruses in that they
are computer programs
that replicate
functional copies of
themselves. However,
worms usually contain
some functionality that
will interfere with the
normal use of a computer
or a program.
-
Spyware
is
software
that secretly monitors
your actions. While they
are sometimes sinister,
like a remote control
program used by a
hacker, software
companies have been
known to use spyware to
gather data about
customers.
Viruses, worms and
spyware programs can
affect your computer in
various ways. At the
very least, the effect
would be noticeably
hindered computer
performance. The worst
case is complete data
loss including system
files that control your
computer. This can cause
your computer to not
even start up.
So how do you keep your
computer safe from all
these malicious
programs? There are many
programs out there that
can keep your computer
safe. There is different
software to protect
against different
things. For example,
programs that protect
against viruses and
worms will not always
protect against
spyware. Many times
you'll need a separate
program to protect
against spyware. Before
you purchase, make sure
you know what each
program does. In the
end, the best way to
protect against
malicious software is to
monitor what you do.
-
Don't open any emails
that have an unfamiliar
sender.
-
Don't click on any
animated or colorful ads
that look out of place
from the site you are
visiting.
-
Don't click on any part
of a Web site that
offers something for
free that would normally
cost a lot of money.
Example: "Shoot the deer
and get a free iPod."
In addition to following
the guidelines above,
there are several
programs you can use to
provide further
protection for your
computer. The hottest
thing right now to fight
against spyware is
Microsoft Antispyware
Beta. Beta means it is
still undergoing final
testing before it can be
sold. The way they are
testing it is they offer
it free and get feedback
from the users. I have
been using it for months
now and it works great.
You can download your
free version of
Microsoft Antispyware
Beta from
www.Microsoft.com.
If you would rather have
a fully tested program,
you can purchase one
from your local computer
store.
There are also many
programs to choose from
to protect your computer
against viruses and
worms. Some of the most
well known virus
protection software
companies are Symantec
and McAfee. Symantec
makes the most
comprehensive protection
programs in my opinion.
However, they are
somewhat complicated. It
may take some time to
understand how
everything works. If you
are an avid AOL user,
stay away from Symantec.
AOL will block you out
if you use Symantec
products since AOL owns
McAfee and is competing
against Symantec.
Symantec's product name
is Norton. McAfee
produces a more user
friendly product but may
not be as comprehensive
as Symantec.
Each company produced
different products to do
different things. An
antivirus or virus
scanning program
regularly scans your
computer and looks for
viruses. An Internet
security program is a
firewall that monitors
everything entering and
leaving your computer.
This protects you from
viruses, hackers, and
privacy threats. It
prevents any private
information from leaking
onto the Internet. Some
also have parental
controls. Antispam
programs monitor your
email to block out any
annoying spam from
reaching you. There are
many other individual
programs that are sold
separately but can be
purchased in one package
along with the functions
described above.
Once you have your
computer protected, you
have to remember to
always keep it up to
date. This is the
biggest mistake people
make when protecting
their computer. Any
software you buy will be
useless without the
proper updates. All
these programs offer
free updates. These
updates tell your
programs what to look
for when protecting your
computer. They will even
update automatically if
you tell them to. New
viruses, worms, and
spyware programs are
released daily so it is
imperative that you keep
your software
up-to-date.
Another
update you should be
doing along with your
regular virus protection
updates, is your Windows
update. Microsoft
periodically releases
updates to fix any
problems with Windows
and to make it more
virus proof. The newer
versions of Windows will
let you know when
updates are available if
your computer is set to
do so. Without these
updates, Windows is more
vulnerable to malicious
software. If you haven't
done any updates lately
or if you are not sure,
go to
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
to check your computer.
If your computer is less
than 2 years old, you
can get the Service Pack
2 update for Windows.
This offers more
protection for your
computer. However, if
your computer is more
than 2 years old, I
wouldn't recommend it.
Follow these
recommendations for
protecting your computer
now and you will save
yourself a great deal of
frustration in the
future.
