How to get started in your nursing business
Many people fail at
their business before they even get started. They prepare by
getting the education that they need to start their new
nursing business, the telephone number and business set-up

business or what to do once they have it.
The image that others
see of you and your business will start with how you project

A
Marketing Plan That Works
RN MARKET started marketing for nurses by helping them
create their letter of introduction and brochure. Then RN
MARKET came up with another way to market. How did we do it?
First, Veronica sat in an office that was occupied by four
attorneys. She watched them open their mail for two weeks.
They thought she was "nuts" and while that is debatable, she
still sat there and watched. She found that for Legal Nurse
Consultants to have effective marketing tools, she would
need to know what they thought was effective by watching
reactions and looking at what they kept, looked at, and
threw away.
Here are some of her
observations:
1. Quality paper is important
2. Color is important
3. Large envelopes are better than small ones
4. Presentation is important
5. Bulleted items and less words or paragraphs are read more
6. Their name does not need to be on it (they already assume
everything has their name on it already)
7. They don't like to turn, open, flip or read the back of
anything
Here is Veronica's
conclusion: The Super Special. Veronica came up with the
Super Special as a new way of marketing. She has not gotten
ANY "bad" feedback from anyone she has made the Super
Special for. Almost every nurse who has come to her for
marketing has purchased the Super Special. It works.
However, one of the nurses did come back with "bad"
feedback, and you know who you are, they received three
cases from an attorney. They called Veronica up and said,
"It's all your fault! Now what do I do? I have cases!"
Veronica mentored her and helped her get on track with her
cases. She now has a thriving Legal Nurse Consulting
business.
If you are afraid of

business.

First networking with others that you know that can possibly
get you leads is the way to start marketing for your
business. Bringing your business cards every where you go
and casually letting others know what form of business you
are in can get you in the right place at the right time. You
would be surprised at the connections that you will make and
the responses you will get from others.
Once you have your marketing packet professionally made,
actually mail them out. Some people skip this step. Direct
mail marketing works. Follow-up with a phone call. This is
the most effective marketing advice that Veronica believes
in. If your marketing items are in a large envelope instead
of a smaller one, someone will open it and someone will
glance at the words. Have you ever thrown out a large
envelope that you received without at least opening it up
first to see what's inside?
Another form of marketing that works is having a Web site
professionally made. Web sites help to project your
professional image and should contain the same information
that is in your marketing materials. You also need to
include contact information, your products or services and
be sure to have a mailing list.
Once business starts flowing in, you can ask those with whom
you have done business with to refer you to others that they
think could utilize your products or services. When someone
likes the products or services that they are receiving, they
tend to tell others and then you are in business. Referrals
are effective marketing tools to get more business.

Nurses in Business Seminar
The recent conference in
Houston for the National Nurses in Business Association went
very well. There was a lot of networking done and many
