Making Commitments

O.K. so now January is here and everyone strives to make commitments. Starting a nursing business is not always easy. You need to get everything together and know which direction to take to make everything flow into place. The best way to start is to have a specific marketing plan in place. You need to reach your customer a minimum of four to seven times to be noticed. Sending an initial mail out is one way to reach them. Another way is with a follow-up phone call. A third may be to send another marketing packet out on a different week and follow-up with another phone call. You can send a post card or a tri-fold. You can also send newsletters after you have established yourself with others.

Tri-folds and post cards are new and easy ways to reach your clients. January and February are great months to send mail outs and get responses. The best way to get business is to get your name out there repeatedly. When a case pops up that they need your assistance with, you are the one they remember or call.

If you have a favorite client that you just must have some business from, go in with some cookies or cater lunch for them in the office. Ask for a few minutes of their time. Other ways to reach them is to call early in the morning when the attorney may be in but the secretary or gatekeeper may be out. You can also try calling after hours because many other workers go home and the attorney may still be in the office working on cases.

Eventually, there will be a case for you to review. You need to give yourself time and don’t get discouraged with any no’s that may pop up. Each no gets you that much closer to a yes.

TIPS ON CREATING YOUR WEB SITE

By Ryan Sanchez

  • Your Web site is just one of millions that are on the internet today. Make your Web site easy to navigate and familiar to use.

  • When you create your Web site, write your content so that everyone who visits your site will understand. The easier your site is to read, the more likely that you will have repeat visitors.

  • You should cut your wording by half than what you would normally use for regular print copy.

  • Try to keep your pages to 50kb or less including images. If your pages take more than 8 or 10 seconds to load, it is too big and you may lose your potential visitor.

  • Keep the pages to your site as short as possible. Break longer pages into smaller ones.

  • Font size needs to be 10pt. or larger for the body of the pages.

  • Make sure you use a spell checker and review your site several times for mistakes.

  • Keep page names familiar to your visitor so that they are easily recognized. The easier it is for your visitor to find their way around your site, the longer that they will stay.

These tips will help you to provide information to your visitor and to keep them coming back.

SIDE BAR

 Coaching Legal Nurses

Engaging in a mentoring relationship is crucial to anyone planning on advancing in their career. Coaching Legal Nurses is a career development and skill improvement plan and tracking system, which facilitates growth and development for both mentors and mentees. These programs are strategically planned for individuals to coordinate multiple activities as determined by the module of choice. An initial "intake" session is provided to asses the desires of the candidate and to build the goal system in a timely manner.

Throw the Fish

By Veronica Castellana, RN, BSN, CLNC

When you work, no matter what you decide to do in life, you need to do it with a passion and a positive attitude. You need to have energy and commit to customer care. You need to have inspiration and encouragement to make each day count.

“Fish,” is a book written by Stephen C. Lundin, Ph.D., Harry Paul, and John Christensen. It hooks you in by teaching you four values that will improve your outlook on how work gets done. It teaches you to:

1. Choose Your Attitude – Who do you want to be while you are at work? Change your attitude by choosing your attitude for the day.

2. Play – How can you have more fun and create more energy? Fun is energizing.

3. Make Their Day – Engage your customers in a way that will make their day? How can you make each other’s day?

4. Be Present – How can you become present for each other and your customers?

How is this done?

In the book, a manager has to turn her sour staff into motivational workers. She learns the four values above by watching the workers at Pike Place Fish, a fish market in Seattle, Washington. People from all over the world come to join in on the magic. They throw fish and yell, “Six crabs flying away to Montana.” The whole staff will reply, “Six crabs flying away to Montana.” You will see the crabs flying over your head and to the person that wraps the fish.  They dance and have fun. They even let you catch the fish.

By watching the enthusiasm of the workers, she learns the four values and approaches her sour staff. They take a trip out to Pike Place Fish and they catch the energy. They bring back that energy and the four values and apply them daily to their work.

Choose your attitude, play and have fun, make their day and your own, and be present in anything that you do. Don’t forget to “throw the fish.”

 Contest Information

Contest information: Go to RN MARKET's Web site if you are a Legal Nurse Consultant. The prizes increase each month. The "case-contest" on-line is still there and RN MARKET has not received much feedback from this. We are giving away a gift certificate for marketing materials from RN MARKET. We will continue to add prizes until we come up with a winner. Submit your answers to RN MARKET via email. The answers don't need to be extensive to win. One or two pages will do the trick. We are looking to have a few more entries than we have received so far. We will let the word get around. November we added an autographed book authored by Dan Poynter. Last month, Tonia Aiken autographed and donated her brand new book. Check our Web site to see what else has been added. The prizes are starting to get bigger and better!

Send in whatever information that you want pertaining to the case on the Web site. Even if you are not a Legal Nurse Consultant and want to try to answer any of the questions that are asked for the contest, send it in. It doesn't need to be perfect. It only needs to be what you as a nurse know or find out through researching the subject. See if you are a natural. The case for the contest is listed in full details but the prizes will keep increasing until we find our winner!!
